There’s no shortage of ways to enjoy Los Angeles’ sunny weather, but few are as memorable as exploring the Hollywood Hills on horseback. One historic ranch offers a scenic trail ride with front-row views of the Hollywood Sign, DTLA, and beyond.
The city’s oldest working ranch, Sunset Ranch Hollywood, has been welcoming riders for almost a century, offering guided horseback adventures through the hills of Griffith Park. Its one-hour Mulholland Trail Horseback Tour has become one of Los Angeles’ most iconic outdoor experiences, combining sweeping city views with a rare glimpse of Hollywood’s western roots.

The guided ride follows scenic sections of the Mulholland Trail, climbing into the Hollywood Hills for postcard-worthy views of the Hollywood Sign, Downtown Los Angeles, the Pacific Ocean on clear days, and even the San Gabriel Mountains when conditions allow.
Along the way, guides make stops for photos, giving riders the chance to snap one of the city’s most recognizable backdrops from a perspective few visitors experience. The experience lasts about an hour and is designed for riders of all skill levels, including complete beginners. Helmets are included, and tours are available in both English and Spanish.
A nearly century-old ranch preserving Hollywood’s cowboy heritage
Long before Hollywood became synonymous with red carpets and movie premieres, horseback riding was simply part of daily life around Griffith Park. Founded in 1929, Sunset Ranch Hollywood has spent nearly a century preserving that legacy, making it one of Los Angeles’ oldest operating horseback riding ranches.
Beyond the popular Mulholland Trail ride, the family-owned ranch also offers longer two-hour excursions to the summit of Mount Hollywood, private rides, and evening tours that showcase the city as the skyline begins to glow after sunset.
