Yesterday, LA28 organizers announced that the application portal for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games volunteer program will open on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, exactly two years before the Opening Ceremony.
This is the next step in assembling a workforce of about 60,000 individuals to support operations at the Games in Los Angeles.
Volunteer requirements and duties
LA28 has shared that selected personnel will commit to a minimum of 10 shifts during their assigned timeframe. The Olympic operational window will run from March to August 2028, while the Paralympic period will follow from August to September 2028.
No prior experience is required, but volunteers are generally assigned roles based on their skills and preferences. Duties range from welcoming spectators and guiding athletes to specialized functions such as medical support and language translation.
It all begins with an online application submission, opening July 14, where you’ll communicate your personal details, skills, and availability. Next, the Olympic committee holds a round of selection interviews, and the volunteers who are chosen will later participate in training sessions ahead of the event.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the start of the Olympic year to qualify. Usually, applicants are expected to arrange their own travel and accommodation close to the venues.
Venues in L.A. and beyond
The majority of assignments will occur in the greater Los Angeles region, concentrated around dozens of venues and the athlete village. While some of the biggest venues include spots like the Rose Bowl and L.A. Memorial Coliseum, other lesser-known venues include Trestles State Beach and the Peacock Theater. Personnel is not strictly limited to L.A., however. Volunteers will also support operations in other municipalities, such as Oklahoma City, OK; New York, NY; Columbus, OH; Nashville, TN; St. Louis, MO; San José, CA; and San Diego, CA.
