Most of us drive past our neighborhood fire station every day, catching a glimpse of the trucks or the crew through the open bays, but rarely getting a reason to actually stop by. That changes on Saturday, May 9, 2026, when the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) hosts its annual Fire Service Day. For one day only, the Los Angeles Fire Department is letting the community in on the action with events at select locations.
From 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, you can step directly into the bays of your local neighborhood station. Though LAFD tells Secret Los Angeles that the general public is allowed to enter and visit a station on any given day.
What’s happening at the station?
The day is centered around the theme “Forward Together,” focusing on how the department and the city are staying resilient. It’s a chance to see their endless gear and equipment, and more importantly, to meet the people who respond when you call 911!
At most participating locations, you can expect:
- “Touch-a-Truck” Experiences: A favorite for families, where you can get an up-close look at the massive rigs and specialized gear.
- Live Demonstrations: See the tools and training in action as firefighters showcase how they handle emergency responses.
- Informational booths: Hosted by local vendors and community partners will be on-site to offer resources and neighborhood connections.
- Disaster Planning: Firefighters will be on hand to help you move past “thinking about” an earthquake kit and actually help you build a solid family plan.
The four main hubs across LA
While nearly every station in L.A. is participating, these four “Focal Sites” serve as the main hubs for each bureau, featuring larger displays and live demonstrations:
- Central Bureau: Fire Station 13 (Pico-Union)
- South Bureau: Fire Station 112 (San Pedro)
- Valley Bureau: Fire Station 88 (Sherman Oaks)
- West Bureau: Fire Station 63 (Venice)
