Beyond its sprawling beaches and magical hiking trails across the mountains, the city’s almost always sunny weather makes spending time outdoors a must for every Angeleno. With this in mind, creating green spaces that bring community life together is essential, and one of the most exciting developments in this regard is the Sixth Street Viaduct park system.

The urban oasis is now entering its landscaping phase. The site, once dominated by unfinished infrastructure and vacant concrete surfaces, is now being filled in with greenery, as turf has already been installed in several areas, as reported by Urbanize LA.
What to know about the Sixth Street Viaduct PARC
The Sixth Street Viaduct PARC (Park, Arts, and River Connectivity) is a major public space project located beneath and around the new Sixth Street Viaduct in central L.A. Situated along the edge of the Los Angeles River, it connects the Arts District and Boyle Heights.
The project spans 12 acres of open space, including approximately seven acres on the west bank and five acres on the east bank. Designed by Hargreaves Jones, it combines recreational amenities with community-oriented spaces.

On the east side, the design emphasizes more active programming, including sports fields, courts, picnic areas, and flexible event spaces. On the west side, the focus shifts toward more leisure-oriented amenities, including a performance lawn, a dog park, fitness equipment, and a public plaza known as Leonard Hill Arts Plaza.
The project’s budget is estimated at $82 million. Work began in the early 2020s following the completion of the new Sixth Street Viaduct, with the park expected to be completed by late 2026.
