The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is honoring the local South Los Angeles community with free passes and early access to 90037 zip code residents!
Announced today, L.A. locals with the 90037 zip code will be able to acquire an LM37 pass, which will allow them two tickets and early entry into the 10,000 sq ft museum ahead of it’s grand opening to the public on September 22.
“From the very beginning, George Lucas and Mellody Hobson envisioned a museum where everyone feels welcome and sees it as their own,” said Tracey Bates, CEO of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, in a statement. Lucas, the filmmaker behind the iconic Star Wars cinematic universe, is the namesake of the museum.
“Storytelling has the power to bring people together and create a sense of community. Through LM37, we are inviting our South Los Angeles neighbors to make the museum part of their lives and take their own path of discovery through the art, programs, and experiences that will help shape this new cultural hub for Los Angeles.”
The museum is hosting a special Community Preview Day on Sunday, September 13, where LM37 passholders will be able to enter the museum for free. The event will welcome community partners, local business owners, and civic leaders with an advance look at the museum.
A press release promises that “a dedicated allotment of tickets for LM37 pass holders will be set aside for the opening of the Lucas Museum and beyond.”
90037 residents can sign up for the LM37 pass here. The program launches in August, and registered residents will be notified when they can sign up for the pass. Once the pass it acquired, passholders can reserve free tickets for themselves and one guest.
What is the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art?
The upcoming museum is the most ambitious project to date from George Lucas and his wife Mellody Hobson. It spans more than 30 large galleries and is organized around Lucas and Hobson’s collection of 1,200 works of illustration, selected personally by Lucas from a pool of roughly 40,000 pieces. Well-known oil works by artists such as Maxfield Parrish and Norman Rockwell sit alongside comic strips, manga, movie concept art, and fantasy scenes populated by dragons, kings, and everyday archetypes. There are two 299-seat movie theaters that stand as some of the finest screening spaces in America. On top of the 100,000 square feet of exhibitions, visitors will also be able to explore gardens designed by Mia Lehrer and Studio-MLA, and the visually iconic building designed by Ma Yansong of MAD.
