Long before SoCal became a hub of sun and surf, one quaint street was already home to families, artisans, and early settlers navigating life in the Golden State. Lined with adobe homes dating back to the late 18th century, this neighborhood is recognized as California’s oldest continuously occupied residential area.
Luckily for Angelenos and SoCal travelers, a day trip to Los Rios Street in San Juan Capistrano is both easy and affordable, as Metrolink is rolling out its $10 SoCal Day Pass.
This special sale offers unlimited same-day rides on all train lines (except the Riverside Line) on six major holidays throughout the year. Perfect for families, tourists, or anyone looking for a weekend getaway, skipping the stress of traffic and without breaking the bank.
Traveling From L.A. to San Juan Capistrano

Just over an hour from DTLA on the Orange County Line, the train pulls into the San Juan Capistrano station (just steps from the Los Rios Historic District), where adobe homes built in the late 1700s still line the shady streets. Using Metrolink’s special pass on select holidays, you can ride throughout the system, including to this charming slice of early Californian history, for just $10 on the day you travel.
Explore Southern California’s hotspots

The Day Pass opens the door to some of the region’s most charming destinations along the Antelope Valley, Inland Empire–Orange County, Orange County, San Bernardino, Ventura County, and 91/Perris Valley lines, serving more than 40 stops, including Lancaster, Oceanside, Oxnard, and San Juan Capistrano.
The pass also includes free transfers to connecting local transit agencies, such as LA Metro, OCTA, and RTA, making it easy to reach your favorite attractions or holiday events without the stress of driving or parking.
Upcoming holiday dates

The $10 SoCal Day Pass is available on six federally recognized holidays (including New Year’s Day), and the next one is Memorial Day (last Monday in May). Throughout the year, travelers can take advantage of this pocket-friendly offer on these upcoming dates:
- Independence Day, July 4.
- Labor Day (first Monday in September).
- Thanksgiving and the day after (fourth Thursday and Friday in November).
- Christmas Day, December 25.
On these holidays, Metrolink trains operate on a weekend schedule across most lines, so you can plan your trips ahead. The Riverside Line does not operate on weekends or holidays, and Amtrak Rail 2 Rail participation may vary, so it’s advised to check schedules before you ride.
Tickets are available on the Metrolink Mobile App or at ticket machines on the day of the holiday.
