Shake Up Your Weekly Grocery Shopping
Grocery store chain Northgate is completely changing the way we do our weekly food shopping. They’ve recently opened up Mercado González Northgate Market in Costa Mesa. It’s technically a grocery store, but if you go, you’ll see it’s not an ordinary grocery shopping experience. Mercado González is based on the typical food hall and marketplace experience in Mexico, and shoppers are going crazy for it ever since it opened last November.
Shoppers can purchase their typical grocery essentials along with Mexican staples. Many items are made fresh in-store right in front of your eyes like the delicious corn and flour tortillas. A panaderia makes fresh bread daily. Plus, you can also purchase a variety of fresh and dried chiles and fresh produce and flowers. There’s even a cheese and candy section.
Grab A Taco While You Shop
But the true stars of the mercado are the almost 20 food stalls that serve deliciously fresh and authentic Mexican food every day. You can order freshly made ceviche, birria, tacos, tamales, enchiladas, and tortas. But most shoppers flock to the El Moro Churro stall which serves authentic churros from Mexico City made using a recipe that dates back to 1935. Plus, there are two fine-dining restaurants on site as well making this a true destination for shopping and dining. Entre Nos Bar and Lounge and Maizano are taking it up a notch and cater to those wanting to turn grocery shopping into date night.
Art + Music = Fiesta
Mercado González is also committed to supporting and fostering talent within the local art community by showcasing their works to the mercado community. Paintings, sculptures, and other artworks are all part of the diverse collection that can be seen at Mercado González. Learn more about the current featured artists here.
There’s always a fiesta at Mercado González. Join them every weekend this February to hear live mariachi music from Mariachi San Antonio and live DJ sets from DJ Kappa. Check out their website here for all the event details.
