As temperatures climb and another summer heatwave settles over Southern California, many families are searching for affordable ways to stay cool while spending quality time together. Fortunately, residents of the San Gabriel Valley have a refreshing new destination close to home. The Hilda L. Solis Aquatic Center, which celebrated its grand opening last summer, is quickly becoming a community favorite, offering modern facilities, year-round programming, and free recreational swim sessions for visitors of all ages.
A new aquatic center for the San Gabriel Valley
The Hilda L. Solis Aquatic Center officially opened on June 14, 2025, in West Puente Valley. The facility became the first Los Angeles County-operated aquatic center in the San Gabriel Valley.
County leaders created the center to expand access to swimming, water safety education, fitness programs, and community recreation. The Hilda L. Solis Aquatic Center includes several modern amenities designed for swimmers of all ages and skill levels.
Visitors can enjoy:
- An Olympic-size competition pool
- A dedicated instructional and practice pool
- Swim lessons for children and adults
- Water safety education programs
- Lap swimming
- Water exercise and aquatic fitness classes
- Community gathering spaces and classrooms
- Outdoor recreational areas
Free recreational swim hours

One of the center’s biggest attractions is its free recreational swimming. Current Rec Swim hours are:
- Monday through Friday: 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Saturday: 12:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Families can cool off during the hottest part of the day without paying an admission fee. Always check the facility’s schedule before arriving because hours may change during holidays or special events.
Additionally, you can participate in swim lessons, lap swimming, aquatic fitness classes, youth swim programs, and water safety instruction throughout the year. As temperatures continue to rise, the Hilda L. Solis Aquatic Center gives families a refreshing place to escape the heat. The facility combines modern amenities, professional aquatic programs, and free recreational swim hours in one convenient location. Whether you want to spend an afternoon with your children, improve your swimming skills, or simply cool off, this new community resource offers something for everyone.
