Olivia Rodrigo’s Daisy Chain Fields has officially made an even bigger impact than expected. The inaugural festival raised $10 million for nonprofits supporting women and girls, and philanthropist Melinda French Gates has matched the donation, bringing the total to an incredible $20 million.
The one-day festival took place on Saturday, August 29, at Great Park in Irvine, bringing together an impressive lineup of women-led musical acts for a celebration inspired in part by the legacy of Lilith Fair.
Rodrigo announced the original $10 million fundraising milestone ahead of the festival. During her headlining set, French Gates joined her onstage to reveal that she would double every dollar raised, bringing the total donation to$20 million.
“What Daisy Chain Fields sets in motion will last far beyond a single night,” French Gates said, explaining that she was inspired by Rodrigo’s vision and wanted to contribute $10 million through Pivotal to support organizations benefiting women and girls.
The proceeds will be distributed among 10 nonprofits, each supporting women, girls, families, or communities in different ways.
The beneficiaries include Baby2Baby, which provides essential supplies such as diapers, formula, clothing, and food to children in need. Plus, the Black Mamas Matter Alliance, which supports Black mothers before, during, and after pregnancy.
Other organizations receiving funds include the National Women’s Law Center, Center for Reproductive Rights, Planned Parenthood, National Institute for Reproductive Health, and Jhpiego.
The list also includes the Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health, FreeFrom, and the National Domestic Workers Alliance. Together, the organizations work on issues ranging from reproductive healthcare and gender justice to support for survivors of gender-based violence and domestic workers.
Daisy Chain Fields was created with the legacy of Lilith Fair in mind. Rodrigo has previously praised the women behind the groundbreaking festival for helping pave the way for today’s female artists and festival headliners.
For its inaugural edition, Rodrigo personally curated a lineup featuring Chappell Roan, Doechii, Mitski, Garbage, The Breeders, Bikini Kill, Stevie Nicks, and Sarah McLachlan, among others.
The artists also helped make the fundraising effort possible by performing without fees, allowing more of the festival’s proceeds to go directly toward its nonprofit partners.
With $20 million now going toward organizations supporting women and girls, Daisy Chain Fields has turned its first year into more than a major music event. It has created a substantial charitable contribution that, as French Gates put it, could last far beyond a single night.
