Quentin Tarantino, the acclaimed filmmaker, has expanded his creative ventures into the coffee shop business with the recent opening of Pam’s Coffy in Los Feliz. Named in honor of Pam Grier and her iconic role in the 1973 blaxplotation film, “Coffy,” the coffee shop is attached to The Vista Theatre, another one of Tarantino’s projects.
The Vista Theatre, a historic single-screen theatre that first opened its doors in 1923, was purchased and upgraded by Tarantino in 2023 after a brief closure. Today, it boasts a state-of-the-art sound system and 70mm projection capabilities. Last year, Variety reported that the theatre’s re-opening would soon be accompanied by a 21-seat micro-screening room and coffee shop.
Having opened its doors this month, Pam’s Coffy offers a unique experience for coffee enthusiasts and Tarantino fans alike. The coffee shop serves blends from Jones Coffee Roasters, a local Pasadena-based company, including Tarantino’s favorite blends, butterscotch and vanilla flavors. In additional to its distinctive coffee offerings, Pam’s Coffy also serves baked goods, many of which are vegan or gluten-free, including apple crumble, brown sugar, and blueberry pop pies, along with various muffins.
The interior of Pam’s Coffy is a vibrant tribute to the cinematic world of “Coffy,” filled with colorful elements. The cafe also features Tarantino memorabilia from his childhood. The coffee shop also features cozy section for watching old VHS tapes, further enhancing its nostalgic charm. Finally, the shop also has a merchandise section with items that celebrate Pam Grier’s iconic character.
Pam Grier, known for her iconic roles in films that defined the 1970s blaxploitation genre and solidified her place in cinematic history with Quentin Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown,” stands as a true film legend. Pam’s Coffy honors her impact, and serves as the perfect gathering place for those who love film and a good cup of local coffee.
