There’s A Southern-Style Brunch Spot Nestled Within The Flower District • Poppy + Rose

By Malia Wooten January 10, 2020

Poppy + Rose claims to be inspired by all of the country kitchens that you know and love.

The Los Angeles Flower Market isn’t the only attraction bringing crowds of Angelenos into the heart of downtown — there’s a southern-style diner whipping up drool-worthy comfort food just across the street! With substantial breakfast dishes and cocktails crafted so well you’ve got no choice but to snap a picture, we totally understand why Poppy + Rose calls it soul food.

Since the restaurant is only open during the morning and early afternoon it makes for the perfect brunch spot; indulge in a number of comfort food favorites like buttermilk fried chicken and waffles, biscuits and gravy, as well as a variety of sandwiches like pulled pork and shrimp po’boy.

With a drink menu just as long as the food options, it’s almost impossible to not splurge and order a couple for the table. You can choose from a variety of coffees, teas, and fresh juices to get your day going, but it wouldn’t truly be an honorable brunch spot without an extensive cocktail list.

From the famous Fried Chicken Mary made with house bloody mary mix, wine-based vodka, pickled veggies, and a scrumptious fried chicken wing to drinks with floral influences like the Rose Mijito and Lavender Wine Spritzer, there are plenty of options to fule your boozy brunch date.

If you’re not a morning person and find it hard getting out of bed before noon, Poppy + Rose also delivers! Whether you’re in the mood for southern comfort food, a new hangout spot, or just want to take some pictures for the ‘gram with your delectable dishes and new plant friends – DTLA’s hidden gem can help you check off a number of things on your list.
