Few American roads have shaped the country’s identity quite like Route 66. Stretching from Chicago to California, the historic highway helped connect communities across the country, supported roadside businesses, and became a lasting symbol of the American road trip. The Golden State marked its western endpoint, making Santa Monica a key part of the road’s history.
The city has been home to several Route 66 landmarks over the years, including the historic Aragon Ballroom and the famous end-of-the-trail sign at the Santa Monica Pier. As the legendary road celebrates its 100th anniversary, the city is set to become one of the region’s major hubs for commemorating the iconic highway, with Montana Avenue serving as the official Route 66 Centennial event!
