It’s Shotime! May 17 is now officially recognized as Shohei Ohtani Day in the city of Los Angeles.
Shohei Ohtani received the special honor at L.A. City Hall on Friday morning, where the official city council presented him with a resolution designating May 17 as “Shohei Ohtani Day” in Los Angeles — with Ohtani and Dodgers officials in attendance.
“Simply put, Shohei has become part of the fabric of Los Angeles,” said Stan Kasten, President and CEO, of the Los Angeles Dodgers. “Since becoming a member of the Dodger family in December, Shohei has been everything we’ve hoped for and more. We are grateful for his accomplishments on the field, his warmth in the clubhouse and his character in all respects – and we congratulate him on this well-deserved honor.”
The two-time American League MVP was a sought-after candidate across the MLB — and the Dodgers sealed a historic deal with the player last year.
“Thank you very much to the L.A. City Council,” said Ohtani during the ceremony. “I appreciate you recognizing me on this day. I want to thank the Dodger organization as well and all the fans.”
It’s no secret that Ohtani has become the face of our boys in blue. He is known for his incredible prowess as a player and has captivated baseball fans around the world. By dedicating a day in his honor, Los Angeles acknowledges not only his athletic excellence but also his impact on the L.A. community and the Dodgers team as a whole.
