Nestled at 3,350 feet of elevation in the San Bernardino Mountains, roughly 90 minutes from Los Angeles, Silverwood Lake is a scenic reservoir that makes for a fantastic weekend destination every single summer.
Summer swim season is officially underway at the lake, which is renowned for its clear water, stunning mountain views, and wide range of recreational activities, including fishing and hiking.
Here’s what to know before you hit the road.

Swim season at Silverwood Lake
Peak summer season at Silverwood Lake generally runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with thousands of visitors flocking to two designated swim areas: Sawpit Beach and Cleghorn Beach. Both beaches have amenities, including restrooms, picnic areas, and nearby parking, although parking can fill up as early as 9 am.
Like many lakes in California, Silverwood Lake may experience algae blooms, particularly during warmer months. Advisories are posted both onsite and online based on regular water testing, so visitors should check current conditions before arriving to ensure it is safe to swim.
Inflatable floats and rafts are not allowed in designated swim zones, and dogs are prohibited from both the beaches and the water.
