The pavement on a certain stretch of highway in Lancaster, California sings to you as you drive! 🎵
It may not be exactly what you’re thinking… the road won’t start singing “Welcome To The U.S.A” when your tire hits a spot on the road. The groves in the ground are spaced so that the road actually plays the finale of Rossini’s “William Tell Overture” as you drive over strips that border the path.
Avenue K was deemed as the highway which hums a beautiful tune instead of the usual annoying sound when you veer off of the road when selected as the commercial site for Honda back in 2008. Sadly, just 18 days later, officials had to pave it over due to complaints from nearby neighbors.
Luckily Honda’s team rebuilt the musical highway just a month later in a location far from residential neighborhoods.
If you want to hear it for yourself, take Highway 14 north from Lancaster and exit at Avenue G. Insider tip – the ultimate roadside attraction can only be heard if you’re driving at the speed limit which is 55 m.p.h.
