Bloom-seekers behold! Descanso Gardens planted around 30,000 tulips back in January — and their hard work (and nature’s) is on full display just in time for spring.
These thousands of tulips have turned parts of their 150-acre haven into a vivid kaleidoscope. Folks can truly experience that meaning of springtime splendor as they wander through oceans of yellow, hot pink, red, white, and purple blossoms that are at their fullest.
You’ll find tons of tulip bulbs near the entrance and along the promenades with an incredible array of specimens to marvel at. Everything from the “Crispa” tulips with delicate fringing in soft pinks and corals to the two-tone “Greigii” in bright red and yellow.
It’s said the tulips represent unconditional love, and each color has different meanings too. For instance, yellow signifies friendship, red represents true romance, orange is for appreciation, and pink is a symbol of happiness. Whatever you’re feeling when you visit, there will surely be a little patch of heaven to match your mood.
When is the best time to visit Descanso Gardens to see tulips?
According to Descanso Gardens, the longevity of their tulips depends on the weather. While you may have seen a few of them unfurl in February, this is largely a mid-March/early April occurrence, so it’s highly recommended to pay them a visit as soon as possible.
Be sure to book ahead to ensure you don’t miss out on these striking beauties — an incredible feat made possible by the garden’s volunteers.
You can visit from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. and from Saturday to Sunday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Advanced reservations can be made online here. Free admission Tuesday occurs on the third Tuesday of every month.
