Bloom-seekers behold! Descanso Gardens planted around 30,000 tulip bulbs a few months ago and they are beginning to turn parts of the 150-acre haven into a vivid kaleidoscope of flowers. Wander through a mix of yellow, hot pink, red, white and purple springtime splendor while the blossoms are at their fullest. While you may have seen a few of them unfurl in February, this is largely a March occurrence so book ahead to ensure you don’t miss out on these striking beauties—and an incredible feat by the garden’s volunteers.
You’ll find tons of them near the entrance and along the promenades with an incredible array of specimens to marvel at. With everything from multi-hued gems and frilly numbers, there’ll be a little patch of heaven to suit your every mood. There’s everything from the “Crispa” tulips with delicate fringing in soft pinks and corals to the two-tone “Greigii” in bright red and yellow.
Each color is said to have different meanings too. For instance, yellow signifies friendship, red represents true love, orange is for appreciation and pink is a symbol of happiness. If you can’t make it down right now, here’s a little glimpse of them in the meantime:
You can visit from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. and from Saturday to Sunday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Advanced reservations can be made online here.
