The annual boat parade has been held since 1983!
In our opinion, living in a big city and being a sucker for lights kind of goes hand in hand. And luckily for us, the Christmas Lights local favorite is happening in Venice Canals this weekend on Sunday, December 15!
You can visit the canals at any time of the year, but it’s particularly beautiful on the first Saturday of December. Charming and shimmering lights deck out a number of wooden framed bridges while flashy boats cruise along the Eastern and Carroll Canals.
The boats that partake in the parade are generally small rowboats or SUP boards that drift along at a neighborly pace, and local residents decorate their ‘floats’ with fun and creative holiday garb. In previous years we’ve seen fireboats, Santa’s sleigh, as well as a mermaid island featuring the cutest little mermaids in town!
The event starts at 3:30p so be sure to pick a bridge, bring a cup of hot cocoa, and get ready to witness a community gathering like no other!
