Our city has many bragging rights. We have an incredible food scene, we’re the birthplace of entertainment, and the city of champions. With so much to be proud of, we’re bound to be humbled — and it seems the pest control company, known as Orkin, is looking to do it.
In news you didn’t want to know, Los Angeles has made the list of worst cities for bed bugs. Yes, unfortunately, you read that right. Los Angeles ranked number five on Orkin’s list of 50 cities across the United States. In case you’re wondering who made number one, check out their top bed bug-infested cities below:
- Chicago
- New York
- Philadelphia
- Cleveland-Akron, OH
- Los Angeles
- Detroit
- Washington, D.C. (+2)
- Indianapolis (-1)
- Charlotte (+5)
- Champaign, IL (+1)
- Columbus, OH (-1)
- Cincinnati (+1)
- Atlanta (+3)
- Grand Rapids, MI (-2)
- Denver
You can find the entire 50-numbered list here. Orkin’s ranking is based on data where they performed the most bed bug treatments between December 1, 2022, through November 30, 2023. It includes both residential and commercial treatments.
If you’re wondering how to avoid running into these kinds of L.A. locals, Orkin has some advice.
“Check the places where bed bugs hide during the day, including mattress tags and seams, and behind baseboards, headboards, electrical outlets, and picture frames,” states Orkin. “Inspect when you move in, after a trip, when a service worker visits, or after guests stay overnight, and always examine all secondhand furniture before bringing it inside your home.”
This actually isn’t the first time a bug has made itself an Angeleno. Our city is home to many roaches too… so much that we also made the list of roachiest cities in America.
