The day has come! After more than a decade of planning, development, and construction, the first three stations of LA Metro’s D Line Extension are open to riders today, Friday, May 8th, 2026, at 12:30 pm.
Metro is celebrating the milestone with free rides systemwide all weekend long, plus numerous community celebrations at the new stations: Wilshire/La Brea, Wilshire/Fairfax, Wilshire/La Cienega.
Festivities kick off with “Discovery Runs Deep” celebrations today at the new stations as well as Wilshire/Western, with live music and food vendors from 12:30pm to 4pm.
But the fun doesn’t stop here, because Metro has partnered with nearly a dozen small businesses to bring ongoing station activations during the first 90 days of service. From free salsa classes to farmers markets and pickleball, there’s plenty to look forward to.
