This Earth Day, Metrolink is bringing back one of its most popular annual traditions — and your commute just got a whole lot greener (and cheaper).
On Wednesday, April 22, every single Metrolink train across the entire Southern California network will be completely fare-free. No ticket. No app, and no wallet required. Just show up, step on board, and ride.
Connectivity and transfers

The fare-free promotion applies to the entire Metrolink network, including the Arrow service in San Bernardino County. But it doesn’t stop at Metrolink stations. Several regional partners are joining the effort, meaning your entire cross-county trip — transfers included — could cost you absolutely nothing.
Participating agencies include:
- LA Metro — Buses and Rail throughout Los Angeles County.
- OCTA — Orange County Transportation Authority.
- RCTC — Riverside County Transportation Commission.
- SBCTA — San Bernardino County Transportation Authority.
- VCTC — Ventura County Transportation Commission.
The initiative aims to reduce regional carbon emissions by encouraging Southern California drivers to transition from their personal vehicles to the regional passenger rail system. “Earth Day is a reminder that small changes, like choosing public transit over driving one day a week, can have a meaningful impact on our environment” Metrolink Board Chair Doug Chaffee said.
Need trip inspiration?

If you aren’t sure where the tracks can take you, Metrolink has put together a curated guide of destinations within walking or biking distance of their stations.
Important note on scheduling: While the rides are free, the schedule will be slightly scaled back. Metrolink will be operating on a reduced weekday schedule. Before you head out, make sure to check the latest schedule updates here so you don’t get stranded at the station!
Happy Earth Day, L.A. — the train is waiting!
