On Thursday, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) announced plans for a Grand Opening Weekend to celebrate the completion of the David Geffen Galleries back in April. The schedule features five days of public programming from June 18 to June 22.
The primary event is a free, campus-wide block party on Saturday, June 20, providing free gallery access, culinary offerings, and live entertainment.
Metro’s new D Line now brings riders straight to LACMA at the Wilshire/Fairfax Station — more on that here.
Here’s a closer look…
June 20: LACMA Block Party
On Saturday, June 20th, LACMA will provide complimentary admission to the 110,000-square-foot facility, the Resnick Pavilion, and BCAM between 10 am and 7 pm.
Festivities include 15 fantastic food vendors, live DJ sets and music all day long, and creative workshops at the NexGenLA Zone.
At 6 pm, Wilshire Boulevard will host the Los Angeles’ first presentation of The Art Parade. Conceived 20 years ago in New York by curator Jeffrey Deitch, the procession features more than 1,000 artists presenting mobile sculptures, costumes, and inflatables.
