Mark your calendars and pack your bags for April 8, 2024, when the skies will host one of the year’s most awe-inspiring astronomical events—a total solar eclipse. This phenomenon, in which the moon fully obscures the sun, promises a dramatic, yet brief transition from daylight to twilight and is a must-see event for anyone within the eclipse’s path.
Airlines are joining the celebration of this rare event by offering special flights across the U.S., allowing travelers to see the eclipse from the comfort of their airplane seats. This upcoming eclipse, a rare celestial event that won’t occur in the U.S. again until 2044, will pass across Mexico, the United States, and Canada, offering an unforgettable view.
For those already firing up a text to your favorite travel buddy in the middle of reading this, Delta Airlines is currently the sole airline offering flights departing from Los Angeles:
- Los Angeles (LAX) to Dallas (DFW), Flight #DL 924, will depart at 8:40 a.m. PST. As of Tuesday evening, there were still seats available in Main ($349+), Comfort+ ($419+), and First class ($1,230+)
- Los Angeles (LAX) to San Antonio (SAT), Flight #DL 2869 will depart at 9 a.m. PST. As of Tuesday evening, there were still seats available in Main ($305+) and Comfort+ ($415+).
Southwest is also celebrating the eclipse with specialized flights. Though not departing from Los Angeles, Southwest’s routes will serve various cities under the eclipse’s path, departing from Dallas, Milwaukee, Chicago, and Nashville.
