Nothing like salty fries and a glass of red to get you through 2020’s gripping season finale.

We’re in the final stretch of a year we’d probably all rather forget and needless to say our anxiety levels were at an all-time high during Election Day. In fact, “anxiety” searches were higher than they’ve ever been in U.S. history Google Trends revealed.  Businesses have been boarding up storefronts in anticipation of civil unrest following the results while the rest of us were stocking up on food and booze supplies on the day, according to the search engine’s trend analysis site. So, if you found yourself pairing your Cabernet with a carb-fest, you weren’t alone.

Globally, “election” was one of the most searched for terms on Google during the 24 hours leading up to the close of Election Day, which was as expected. What was not expected is though, was “Chinese food near me” being the third most searched for term post the next day in the U.S.

But that’s not the only food Americans in mind to take the edge off. It turns out “Pizza near me”  and “liquor store near me” were among the top three food searches on the day.

Meanwhile, “fries near me” and “liquor store near me” reached new highs.

So, we decided to confirm this with Angelenos asking our Instagram readers to tell how they were spending the day. As you might expect, bingeing on booze and food were among the top responses.

1. Ice Cream

We approve. Netflix, ice cream and wine is the holy trinity of survival kits and you can never go wrong with ice cream, especially in a city that absolutely nails the frozen treat scene.

2. Discounted Halloween Candy

Well, it’s better than saving it for next year’s trick-or-treaters and it’s not like the scary part of the year has gone anywhere. Plus, it’s an economical way to make your stress-eating supplies go further.

3. Wine

You weren’t alone, so “cheers” to that.

4. Or just any form of liquor

It seems most Angelenos chose to drown their anxieties with booze. Here are some convenient options to help you weather the emotional storm.

5. Carbs in every shape and form
