Pasta lovers have a new excuse to plan a road trip: Yelp has released its all-time ranking of the 100 best pasta shops in the country, and one California business made the top 10.
The family-owned shop has been a neighborhood staple since 1981, serving fresh pasta and Italian specialties that have kept customers coming back for decades. Located in San Diego, Assenti’s Pasta is a longtime pasta shop for anyone looking to bring authentic flavors to their own kitchen.
A family tradition dating back to 1981
Assenti’s opened in 1981, founded by Adriana Assenti and her sons, Roberto and Luigi, who now run the family business. The shop began with pasta made entirely by hand. Still, growing demand eventually led the family to introduce pasta-making machines while maintaining its traditional recipes and commitment to quality ingredients.
Today, the market offers more than 40 pasta flavors and 20 shapes, alongside Italian sausages, imported cheeses, olive oils, sauces, and other specialty products. It’s a place to pick up ingredients for an Italian dinner at home, with plenty of options beyond the usual spaghetti and penne.
