Remember that viral Kang’s Kuisine video? We get the hype now. Here’s the story of the creator behind it — and how his food ended up all over your feed.
Josh Kang started his business by posting cooking content on social media. As he puts it, what started as a passion project quickly grew into something way bigger than he could have ever imagined. Currently, Kang is balancing a 9-to-5 job while churning out up to 120 breakfast burritos a week.
His food concept, Kang’s Kuisine, centers around a signature galbi jjim breakfast burrito that recently gained widespread attention on social media. Inside the grilled tortilla, Kang layers slow-cooked, shredded Korean braised short rib over thick blocks of folded egg, baked tater tots, and cheese. He initially launched the project by “cooking out of his apartment”, but, as demand for the fusion dish surged online, he relocated his production to a local cafe.
Kang’s Kuisine model
Operating out of a commercial cafe space allows Kang to efficiently manage his weekly order volume and serve a broader customer base. “Kang’s Kuisine is a mix of the cultures I was brought up with, the communities, and my Korean heritage. And for me, seeing people enjoy my food, seeing people talk about it… just really happy and grateful that people are starting to appreciate it and enjoy it more”.
Future Plans
Though he currently runs Kang’s Kuisine as a secondary venture alongside his day job, Kang aims to eventually transition into the food business on a full-time basis. “I always had a dream of having my own cafe“, Kang told us. His long-term goal is to secure a permanent brick-and-mortar restaurant space to house the growing brand.
Kang’s Kuisine takes pre-orders on the Wednesday before the Sunday pop-up. It is pre-order only, no walk-ins or day of orders. Their last pop-up was at Cafe Du Gallery last Sunday, May 17. Be on the look out for other pop up dates and locations on their Instagram!
