Looking for a budget-friendly way to explore California this year? In celebration of Juneteenth and the nation’s 250th anniversary, California State Parks is giving away a special free edition of its popular Historian Passport. However, the clock is ticking — this special passport is only available to claim for a limited time before the window closes on July 6.
What is the Historian Passport?
Normally costing $50 annually, the Historian Passport grants you unlimited visits to over 30 historic state parks across the state.
“California’s state historic parks preserve some of our nation’s most powerful and meaningful stories, and I’m proud to live in a state that celebrates diversity to connect more people with those stories through this limited-time free pass”, said California State Parks Director Armando Quintero.
With your free pass in hand, you can visit incredible sites that highlight stories of resilience, innovation, and community. Some of the standout locations include:
- Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park: A must-see destination and the most significant state park representing Black history in California.
- Marshall Gold Discovery State Historic Park: Step back in time to the historic site that sparked the famous California Gold Rush.
- Antelope Valley Indian Museum State Historic Park: Showcases thousands of Native American artifacts representing Great Basin, Southwest, and California Indigenous cultures.
- Pigeon Point Light Station State Historic Park: You will be able to see one of the tallest lighthouses in the nation.
- Indian Grinding Rock State Historic Park: Explore Native American history and view the largest collection of bedrock mortars in North America.
