You know that saying that the hardest part is making a decision and once you get that out of the way, everything else is a lot easier? Well, same goes with Candlelight. Now that you’ve finally bought the tickets, you can simply focus on how best to prepare for the performance. And we’ve made it much easier with these essential things to know before going to a Candlelight concert, covering a number of questions you may have on dress code, mobile use, the program, and more!
1. Plan your journey beforehand
This is extremely important for any event. However, as doors close on time every evening at these candlelit performances, you don’t want to arrive late because you might not be allowed in. Doors open 30 to 60 minutes before the start of the show, so why not leave the house 30 minutes early and comfortably park your car with no rush?
What’s more, Candlelight always chooses historic and culturally significant venues like the Skirball Cultural Center or Immanuel Presbyterian Church that are typically centrally located with lots of public transport options, so there is really no excuse.
2. Is there a dress code?
Although these are classical performances, there is no dress code and you can wear whatever you like within reason. Certainly, you don’t have to come dressed in your fanciest clothes, but also might not want to come directly from the beach with flip flops and a see-through caftan. Most guests show up in a smart casual style, ensuring comfort for the whole performance.
3. Can I use my mobile?
Another important thing to know before going to Candlelight is that you either have to turn off your phone or keep it on silent (includes no vibrate) so as not to distract the musicians or the other audience members. In regard to pictures, you can snap photos of the venue prior to the start of the show.
Additionally, in the last song musicians typically invite guests to take photographs or record the performance, as a little souvenir for the evening. But try to reframe from using it besides these moments and live in the moment. It’s a unique musical experience that only lasts 60 minutes, so why not make the most out of it?
4. What about singing along?
This is a tricky one, because sometimes you can’t help but hum along, especially since you’ll be hearing famous hits that everyone knows, recreated in the classical form. But again, try to be mindful of other guests because it might be annoying to them if they hear you belting high notes. A safe bet is always reading the room to understand the tone and overall vibe.
5. The program
In the Fever app, you’ll normally find a tentative program added to the plan. The setlist can be subject to change, because usually tickets are sold in advance and these performances are carefully curated to include the greatest songs and compositions of every artist.
Moreover, although they’re created to appeal to most interests, they need to have the right flow so perhaps they won’t cater to everyone’s favorite song.
We hope you’ll find these tips helpful when it comes to organizing the evening of the show. Be respectful of other audience members but most importantly, enjoy the concert and hopefully, it’s something you’ll want to try again.
And if you have a blast, spread the word and share your experience with your loved ones. Or even gift them a Candlelight concert with this handy gift card.
