One of the city’s legendary bars could be facing an uncertain future, and its staff is asking the community to help keep its doors open.
Ye Rustic Inn, a Los Feliz staple known for its Buffalo wings, laid-back atmosphere, and loyal regulars, has issued an urgent plea for support as its lease renewal remains unresolved.
Ye Rustic Inn could lose its outdoor patio
In an Instagram announcement, the bar revealed that its outdoor space is scheduled to be removed on Monday, November 2, while its lease situation remains uncertain.
The team called on neighbors and longtime patrons to stand behind the establishment and organized a peaceful “circle of hope and unity” this past Wednesday, October 28, inviting supporters to demonstrate how much the bar means to the community.
According to recent reporting, owner Susan Wood, who has run the establishment since 1999, has struggled to secure a lease renewal. The landlord reportedly cited insurance concerns regarding the outdoor space. Wood has also warned that the uncertainty could force staff layoffs before Christmas.
While the situation has raised concerns about a possible closure, Ye Rustic Inn has not announced that it is permanently shutting down. The removal of its patio does not necessarily mean the end of its indoor operations either.
Ye Rustic Inn, a Los Feliz staple since 1971
Located at 1831 Hillhurst Avenue, Ye Rustic Inn has been part of L.A.’s bar scene for more than five decades. The establishment opened in 1971 and became a neighborhood fixture and, as PBS SoCal reported, the bar was once frequented by the hippies and Hollywood elite who lived in the area.
Over the years, its medieval-inspired decor, casual atmosphere, and Buffalo wings helped establish its reputation as one of the city’s classic dive bars. It has even earned recognition from Esquire’s Best Bars in America.
