Good news, sunshine seekers and hiking enthusiasts! Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve is open again. After a four-month temporary closure for utility upgrades, the park reopened last March. The main trails, upper parking lots, and park road are fully accessible to visitors. Now that the gates are open and the spectacular ocean views are waiting for you, it’s the perfect time to plan a coastal adventure.
Top trails to explore
Spanning roughly 2,000 acres of coastal terrain, the park is home to the Torrey Pine, the rarest pine in North America. The natural reserve was named a National Natural Landmark almost 50 years ago.
As one of the largest wild stretches of untouched land on the SoCal coast, the reserve offers beautiful paths for every fitness level. Here are three great options to check out on your next hike:
- Guy Fleming Trail (0.7-Mile Loop): This easy, flat trail is perfect for families and casual walkers. It features two scenic ocean overlooks, unique rock formations, and front-row views of the rare Torrey pine trees.
- Razor Point Trail (1.4 Miles Round-Trip): This path winds through coastal brush and sandstone gorges. It leads to a panoramic view of the ocean.
- The Beach Trail (0.75 Miles One-Way): A steep footpath that leads straight down the cliffs to the sand. It is a wonderful workout with a beach reward at the bottom. Just remember to save some energy for the steep climb back up!
