Sitting right at the entrance of San Clemente’s North Beach, the iconic Miramar Theatre has been a beautiful, sun-bleached mystery for decades. This summer, the coastal landmark is finally shaking off the dust.
Pretty soon, the historic Miramar Theatre is throwing its doors open as the highly anticipated Miramar Food Hall. The food hall will feature 12,600 square feet of foodie heaven featuring 15 vendors, two bars, ocean views, and an outdoor patio designed to catch those perfect Pacific breezes. This new destination is going to become one of the best new excuses to escape L.A. for a weekend road trip.
The history of the Miramar Theatre

The San Clemente Theatre opened in 1938. At a time when the beachside city was just beginning to find its footing, Ole Hanson envisioned a premier coastal entertainment hub that would attract visitors from across Southern California. The city hired the renowned architect Clifford A. Balch, who delivered a Spanish Colonial Revival masterpiece.
In 1946, the San Clemente Bowling Center opened next door. However, changing economic demands and the rise of multiplex cinemas took a heavy toll. In 1992, the Miramar permanently closed its doors. For more than 30 years, the building has sat abandoned.
Miramar Food Hall: what to eat
Today, the Miramar complex has been divided into two distinct concepts. The main auditorium where Hollywood classics once screened has been restored, and it now operates as a wedding and private event venue. The 1946 bowling alley is what will house the new Miramar Food Hall, which will honor the landmark’s design by incorporating the building’s physical history directly into the dining experience.
The space might look like a 1930s time capsule, but the food is entirely modern. Here is every vendor opening inside the food hall:
- Cosmos Burger
- El Puerto Street Tacos
- Graciously Thai
- Hen Haus
- Immersion Coffee Co.
- It’s Allll Rice
- La Vida
- Lobster Lab
- MOTO Pizza
- Norigiri
- RolledUp SC
- Sidelines Sandwiches
- The Pita
